It's Moving Day!

Just a quick note to let you know that I've finally made the decision to move over to WordPress!  Yeay!  I'm just about to start the move ... so sorry for the confusion as I go through this process.  This is my first time doing the switch over ... and I have a lot of changes that I'm going to be making as I move.

Please be patient with me over the next few days as I get all this sorted out.

I'm looking forward to the growth that this move is going to allow me and Mommy Blog Designs!

On to bigger and better!!!

Are you ready! It's LAUNCH TIME!!! Introducing WikiMommy.com!

As many of you know, I've been working super hard over the last month with Lexie from voiceBoks.com creating a brand new information resource website for moms.

We've done a great job keeping this new site TOP SECRET (except for the one smarty pants who figured it out ... Rosann!! lol!!)

And we're now ready to let a few mommies in to take a peek!

Want to see why I'm so excited right now??  We're launching our new website TODAY!!  Right NOW!!

Here's the link ...

Please note ... we've been working super hard the last month developing the structure and framework.  As this new site is very different than a traditional blog, Lexie and I both had to learn a lot to build this site.  We're thrilled with how it's coming together.

However... we're now just launching phase 1.  When you enter the site, you'll see many pages still do not have content.  We'd love for you to contribute where you can.  This is a WIKI ... just like Wikipedia.com.  But unlike Wikipedia, WikiMommy is geared towards moms.  It's a site by moms, for moms.  And we want all moms to feel encouraged and comfortable contributing.

So why are you still reading this post?  Hop on over and check out the new site!  And please, feel free to contribute and post some articles.

Also ... if you run into any problems, ie ... typos, links not working correctly, or any other issues ... please be sure to let us know.  Please email us at wikimommy@gmail.com.

Thank you so much for your continued support over the last month while I was super busy and not so reachable!!  Lexie and I hope that you enjoy our new site as much as we've enjoyed building it for you!!

Calling All Mommy Experts!

Are you a mom (or dad)? Are you an expert at something? Do you have some words of wisdom that you could share with other moms?

Would be willing to trade any words of mommy wisdom for fresh, new traffic to your website or blog?

If so, please read on!

Myself, along with Lexie Lane (from voiceBoks.com) are the process of creating a new information resource for moms. I can’t tell you too much about it now ... as we haven’t officially launched yet. Our projected launch date is coming up in about 2 weeks on October 18 (My bday ... yeay!!)

This new website is something completely new to the mommy community, and we’re so excited to share it with you! We know that this is going to be a great resource for moms for 2 reasons:
  1. There's going to be a ton of useful information for moms, on a variety of topics
  2. There’s going to be an opportunity for moms to contribute content to the site, in exchange for links and exposure back to their own site or blog.

Here’s why I’m writing this today ...

We’re looking for some moms to help us fill up the content. We’re looking for quality, informational articles to post on the site.

We’re looking for articles on the following topics:

  • Beauty
  • Blogosphere
  • Business & finance
  • Children
  • Education
  • Entertainment
  • Family
  • Food
  • Living Green
  • Health
  • Hobbies
  • Home
  • Pregnancy
  • Self Help
  • Sports
  • Travel
Do you have something to share that fits into any of these categories? If so, we’d love to hear from you! We’re looking for INFORMATION articles. We’re not looking for blog posts. Think more reference-y (if that’s word!). How To’s, Step-by-Step lists, or tutorials would be great! Nothing written in first person.

Your article can be as long or as short as you’d like ... and you’re welcome to include some graphics. You’re also welcome to contribute as many articles as you’d like!

What’s in it for you?

TRAFFIC! We’re expecting this new site to be a big hit! There’s nothing else like it out there, and with the research we’ve done, there is a need for it. Each of your articles will include your picture, your bio, and a link to your website (s). This back link is going to be amazing for your SEO! AND you’ll get tons of page views from your article.

So ... if you’re interested in extra traffic to your blog, then take a few minutes and write some articles. Please send your articles to mommyarticles@gmail.com.

Note that not all articles will be accepted. Be sure to follow an informational format (and not conversational blogging) to ensure your article is included.

Happy writing!!

Ps ... as an additional bonus, and our way of saying thank you, we’re going to be allowing all those who contribute articles first peek at this new site. We’re hoping to go into pre-launch next week ... and for those who submit articles, you’ll be the first ones in!

PPs ... we now have a Facebook page for our new secret site!! Click LIKE us on Facebook to stay up to date with all pre-launch info ...

Please excuse the mess ...

So ... if you've spent the day following along with me, you'll know that I switched my site over to Blogger's new Dynamic Views.  I was really unhappy with it, so I'm now changing back over to the old Blogger.

And as you may know ... I'm always learning.  I recently learned some AMAZING new design tricks that  I've been wanting to add to my blog.

So thanks Blogger .. for messing up my blog with your Dynamic Views ... as it gave me the perfect opportunity to do some design updates!!  Yeay!!

Please excuse the mess for the next few hours as I'm having fun playing around with my code ... and moving lots of stuff around.

Thanks for your patience!

Blogger's New Dynamic Views

So I tried it. It lasted about an hour. I tried Blogger's new Dynamic Views. Sure ... it sounded real cool ... and that's why I jumped on board. But I'm a little confused. Isn't one of the main point of blogging to connect and interact with your readers? Maybe I'm missing something here ... but I can't seem to get any of my follow buttons on this nice new blog. I've tried a few different ways now ... and I can't get my GFC to show ... not can I get links to my Twitter and Facebook on here. So ... I'm now going to switch back. I gave Blogger's new Dynamic Views a try ... but I have to admit that I'm not overly impressed. At least for now. I understand that it's still in Beta ... so perhaps once the new customization options are introduced, I might switch back. BUT ... only if they get it right. I'm off to go re-do my blog back to the way it was before. Hope I haven't lost too much in the switch!

To Switch or not to Switch?

That is the question!  To switch or not to switch?

I decided recently that I was going to be changing my blog from Blogger over to WordPress.  I've designed now quite a few blogs for clients on WordPress, and I gotta tell ya ... it's lots of fun over there!!  There's so much more that you can do.

However ... Blogger launched some interesting new functions recently ... and these new functions MAY have me sticking around for a little while longer.  (But there are still some major issues with them ... so I'm not sold on them just yet!!)

I'm spending some time today switching my blog over to the new Blogger Dynamic Views.  I'm going to put my faith in Blogger (I know!  Scary!) and give these new features a try.

You'll notice (once I complete making this change) that a few things will be different on my blog.
1.  I won't have any sidebars anymore!!  This is a BIG problem right here.  BUT ... I'm going to see if I can find a way to get around it.  I'm going to play around with different options to still have all the contact and follow information that used to live in the sidebar.

A major pro to having these sidebars gone is that my site should load way faster.  So ... if I can figure out a different solution to still provide you with the info, than maybe I'll go with it.  But that's still a big MAYBE!

2.  My header is gone.  Again ... this is an issue with the new dynamic view ... but supposedly Blogger is working on it.  Hopefully, before too long, we'll be able to add all the extra customizing options, and my pretty header will be back.  (At least we can still customize our background, so that's still here)

3.  This is the FUN point ... have a looksie at how all my posts are organized!!  This is the magazine view.  Doesn't it look snazzy??  Now ... look up at the top left on my menu bar and you'll see there's a drop down menu.  Click on all of the options in there.  Have fun!  That is the FUN part of the new Blogger Dynamic views.  YOU ... the reader ... are in full control of how you want to view my blog right now!  Pretty cool, huh??!!  Go ahead and click to change the view of my blog.

So ... to sum up ... I think I'm going to stick around with Blogger, at least for a few days longer, to play around with the Dynamic Views.  I'm going to figure out a different solution to get the info from the sidebars still on my site.  And I'm going to play around a bit and see how I can customize this to make it more 'me'!

Once I get all this sorted out, then I'll make my final decision on whether to stick it out with Blogger, or make the switch over to WordPress.
